David Ortiz smacked a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning as the Boston Red Sox rallied past the Detroit Tigers (5-3) to avoid a three-game sweep at Comerica Park last night.  Joba Chamberlain falls to (1-3) with his second blown save of the season.  The Tigers are in Chicago to play the White Sox starting tonight.  It's the first four-game series.  First pitch is 8:10pm, and Rick Porcello will get the start tonight for Detroit.

The West Michigan Whitecaps are now just a 1/2 game back of first place in the Eastern Division after defeating South Bend (7-1) yesterday at Fifth-Third Ballpark.  That's the eighth straight win at home for the Caps who will host the Silverhawks again tonight with first pitch set for 7pm.

In college basketball news, West Virginia transfer Eron Harris did not make a stop in Ann Arbor over the weekend.  The guard has two years left of eligibility and is now learning toward Michigan St. over Michigan and Purdue.  The Indiana native averaged 17.2 points per game last season with West Virginia.

Congratulations to the Rockford and East Grand Rapids Girls lacrosse teams for winning state championships over the weekend!  Rockford beat Ann Arbor Pioneer (16-7) on Saturday to claim their second straight title in Division 1, and East Grand Rapids defeated Okemos (11-7) to complete their three-peat in Division 2.
