J.D. Martinez lifted a sac-fly in the bottom of the ninth to send the Detroit Tigers to a (4-3) win over the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park yesterday afternoon.  Nick Castellanos drove in two while Victor Martinez doubled in a run for Detroit, which has now won three out of four.  The Tigers open up a big four-game series against the Kansas City Royals tonight at Comerica Park....first pitch is 7:08pm.  Justin Verlander (6-6) will go up against Jason Vargas (6-2) of the Royals. 

On the track, Jimmie Johnson drove to the checkered flag in yesterday's Quicken Loans 400, earning his first career win at Michigan International Speedway.  Johnson's victory gives Hendrick Motorsports five straight wins on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. 

For the first time since 2007, the West Michigan Whitecaps are Midwest League Eastern Division champions.  They defeated the South Bend Silverhawks on the road yesterday (4-1) to claim the title.  Next up is the 50th. annual Midwest League All-Star Classic tomorrow night at 5/3rd. Ballpark - first pitch is 7pm.  Former Tiger great, Willie Horton, will be in attendance and signing autographs from 5:45pm-7:15pm. 

In girls high school soccer from the weekend, congratulations to Hudsonville Unity Christian and Calvin Christian for bringing home state championships!  The Crusaders defeated Detroit Country Day in Division 3 (3-1) to claim their second state title in 3 seasons.  Meanwhile, the Squires of Calvin Christian made it three in a row by beating Clarkston Everest Collegiate (2-1) on Saturday. 

Finally, don't forget the United States will get its World Cup journey underway as it faces Ghana in Group G play this evening.  Kickoff is set for 6pm with live coverage beginning at 5:30pm right here on ESPN 96.1.
