With Detroit Lions training camp kicking off on Monday there is an important piece of business the team still doesn't have done. ESPN reported it doesn't look like the team will be able to come to terms on a long-term contract with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh before practice starts. Veterans are set to report on Sunday.
On the diamond, Nick Castellanos hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning as the Detroit Tigers topped the Los Angeles Angels (6-4) in the first of four in Anaheim last night. Ian Kinsler doubled and drove in two, while Austin Jackson had an RBI and scored a run for Detroit, which has won four of five now. Max Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings of three-run ball as he upped his record to (12-3). Joe Nathan fanned the side in order in the ninth for his 21st. save. Drew Smyly at (6-8) on the season will get the start tonight against the Angels....first pitch is 10:05pm.
The Whitecaps had dominating pitching last night as they shutdown Clinton (5-1). The Caps will take on the Lumberkings again tonight in the series finale...scheduled start time is 7:30pm.
