The Detroit Tigers made another big trade before the trading deadline yesterday as Cy Young award winner David Price is coming to Motown!  The Tigers pulled off a three-team deal that sends pitcher Drew Smyly along with Whitecaps shortstop Willy Adames to Tampa Bay along with Seattle minor league infielder Nick Franklin.  Tigers centerfielder Austin Jackson goes to the Mariners, and Price joins fellow Cy Young award winners Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer in Detroit's rotation.

On the field yesterday, Detroit lost to Chicago (7-4) in the series rubber match.  New reliever Joakim Soria was charged with the loss.  Tonight, Detroit opens a three game series against the Colorado Rockies.  First pitch is 7:08pm at Comerica Park.

In other Tigers news, outfielder Andy Dirks will begin a minor league rehab assignment tonight with the West Michigan Whitecaps.  Dirks was sidelined during his rehab stint with Class-A Lakeland earlier this month after he developed soreness in his back.

The Detroit Lions will have their first practice in pads today as training camp continues in Allen Park.  Guard Larry Warford said yesterday that the ankle he injured on Wednesday during drills at Wayne State University is fine.  Detroit also announced yesterday the team signed free agent defensive end Kris Redding, who went undrafted out of Wake Forest this year.  To make room on the roster for Redding, the Lions released receiver Cody Wilson.

The West Michigan Whitecaps pulled out a (5-4) victory over Lake County last night, and tonight the Ft. Wayne TinCaps are in town.  It's another Tiger Friday as the Whitecaps salute the 1984 World Series championship team with Tom Brookens in attendance along with San Diego Padre and former MSU alum Steve Garvey.  First pitch is 7pm.
