The Detroit Tigers wasted a brilliant outing by David Price, losing to the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday afternoon (1-0).  Price, on the mound for the first time against his former team, allowed one unearned run in the first inning and gave up just one hit while striking out nine in a complete game loss.  Detroit was held to four hits and went 0-fo-7 with runners in scoring position.  Tonight, Detroit opens a four game set against the Twins in Minnesota.  Robbie Ray gets the start for the Tigers...first pitch is 8:10pm.

In other Tigers news, sexual assault charges against Detroit minor league pitcher Evan Reed have been dismissed.  36th district Judge Kenneth King ruled yesterday that the case against Reed had no merit and he found that the 45-year-old woman making the accusations was not a credible witness.

Also, the Tigers are in the mix for Cuban defector Rusney Castillo.  Multiple reports say the Tigers, Red Sox, and Yankees are all interested in the 27-year-old speedy outfielder.  Castillo is expected to make a decision on where to sign no later than the weekend.

The Detroit Lions play their third preseason game tonight as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ford Field.  Kickoff is 7:30pm.  Receiver Calvin Johnson is expected to make his 2014 debut tonight after sitting out the first two exhibition games.  Defensive end Ziggy Ansah may also see his first action of the preseason against Jacksonville.

The U-M and MSU basketball schedules are out and the Wolverines will open their upcoming season against Oregon in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn November 24th.  MSU will tip off on the road against Navy in the Veterans Classic on November 14th.

And the Whitecaps earned back to back shutouts...defeating Dayton (5-0) last night.  Tonight they'll take on the Dragons - First pitch is 7pm.
